Linking radical ties to BHO’s failed educational & economic leadership

The CAC structure is adeptly explained in full by Steve Diamond, and I suggest you read all from the horse’s mouth. But to summarize, the CAC had three divisions in it’s structure - the Board, the Collaborative, and Consortium of Chicago Schools Research (CCSR).

Obama chaired the money arm of the CAC structure - the Board. Everything fiscal including fund raising, fund matching and the grants. In other words, Obama oversaw the original grant funds, and the ensuing funds raised which ultimately totalled $160 million.

Ayers co-chaired the Collaborative arm, which was the “clearing house” for ideas, strategies, plans etal all for the CAC. This arm also represented the “various constituencies in the Chicago schools and wider community”.

Together, they controlled the money, and the decisions where the money went.

The failure? The third arm, the Consortium of Chicago School Research, was charged with monitoring the impact of the projects. Apparently it was a lot of money down the drain. There was no statistical difference between Annenberg schools and demographically similar non-Annenberg schools.

It needs to be also mentioned that a more than healthy bulk of that money actually went to political purposes, electing local officials friendly with Ayers and Obama’s approach to education. The CCSR report specifically mentioned this political conflict of the CAC’s political promotions as a possible factor in the lack of impact in student achievement.

CONCLUSION? Obama, in control of a hefty sum of cash, funneled *most* of it to his and Ayers’ political allies… not to the schools. Additionally, in order for the schools to receive the CAC funds, they were required to ally with particular organizations.

Bottom line? He made his and Ayers’ political friends powerful, but did nothing to achieve the educational improvement that was the object of Annenberg’s national challenges.

McCain should be pointing out that Obama’s leadership for educational reform, and his control over the budget, was politically oriented/influenced, and the student beneficiaries were left in the lurch. Bad leadership for both handling money, and for educational reform.

FACT: Ayers, now a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago (not English as Obama stated), is still on the seven-member Woods Fund board.

FACT: In 2001, Ayers wrote a book, ''Fugitive Days'' — he called it a memoir — in which he wrote that he participated in the bombings of New York City police headquarters, the Capitol building and the Pentagon. "

FACT: I will be shocked if this issue is portrayed accurately by the media.

Barack Obama in the past year has proposed increasing the payroll tax on workers, raising capital gains tax from 15% to 25%, and increasing the death tax. He voted almost 100 times for higher taxes in just four years in Congress, and his running mate Senator Biden openly advocated raising middle-class taxes to pay for increased Government spending.

Now Obama proposes increasing Government welfare payments for those who dont pay taxes (via a 'refundable tax credit'), hiking income tax rates on those who already pay close to 40% of collected income taxes, yet calls this socialistic redistribution of wealth a 'middle-class tax cut'. What a farce.

Candidate Obama wraps the tax plans of Mondale in the rhetoric of a Reagan. It adds up to the dishonesty of Clinton and economic program of Hoover. Despite the stiff competition, Obama will be our next Worst President Ever.

On an October morning, in the Gulf of Tonkin, I prepared for my 23rd mission over North Vietnam. I hadn't any worry I wouldn't come back safe and sound. I thought I was tougher than anyone. I was pretty independent then, too. I liked to bend a few rules, and pick a few fights for the fun of it. But I did it for my own pleasure; my own pride. I didn't think there was a cause more important than me.

I was dumped in a dark cell, and left to die. I didn't feel so tough anymore. When they discovered my father was an admiral, they took me to a hospital. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't even feed myself. They did it for me. I was beginning to learn the limits of my selfish independence. Those men saved my life.

I was in solitary confinement when my captors offered to release me. I knew why. If I went home, they would use it as propaganda to demoralize my fellow prisoners. Our Code said we could only go home in the order of our capture, and there were men who had been shot down before me. I thought about it, though. I wasn't in great shape, and I missed everything about America. But I turned it down.

A lot of prisoners had it worse than I did. I'd been mistreated before, but not as badly as others. I always liked to strut a little after I'd been roughed up to show the other guys I was tough enough to take it. But after I turned down their offer, they worked me over harder than they ever had before. For a long time. And they broke me.

When they brought me back to my cell, I was hurt and ashamed, and I didn't know how I could face my fellow prisoners. The good man in the cell next door, my friend, Bob Craner, saved me. Through taps on a wall he told me I had fought as hard as I could. No man can always stand alone. And then he told me to get back up and fight again for our country and for the men I had the honor to serve with. Because every day they fought for me.

I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else's. I loved it not just for the many comforts of life here. I bring greetings and support from your brothers and sisters throughout Northamerica. Welcome to the World Education Forum! Amamos la revolucion Bolivariana!

This is my fourth visit to Venezuela, each time at the invitation of my comrade and friend Luis Bonilla, a brilliant educator and inspiring fighter for justice. Luis has taught me a great deal about the Bolivarian Revolution and about the profound educational reforms underway here in Venezuela under the leadership of President Chavez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution, and I’ve come to appreciate Luis as a major asset in both the Venezuelan and the international struggle—I look forward to seeing how he and all of you continue to overcome the failings of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane. Thank you, Luis, for everything you’ve done.

I also thank my youngest son, Chesa Boudin, who is interpreting my talk this morning and whose book on the Bolivarian revolution has played an important part in countering the barrage of lies spread by the U.S. State Department and the corrupted Northamerican media.

On my last trip to Caracas I spoke of traveling to a literacy class—Mission Robinson— in the hills above the city along a long and winding road. As we made our way higher and higher, the talk turned to politics as it inevitably does here, and someone noted that the wealthy—here and everywhere, here and in the US surely—have certain received opinions, a kind of absolute judgment about poor and working people, and yet they have never traveled this road, nor any road like it. They have never boarded this bus up into these hills, and not just the oligarchy or the wealthy—this lack of first-hand knowledge, of open investigation, of generous regard is also a condition of the everyday liberals, and even many of the radicals and armchair intellectuals whose formulations sit lifeless and stifling in a crypt of mythology about poor people. Everyone should come and travel these roads into the hills, we agreed then—and not just once, but again and again and again – if they will ever learn anything of the real conditions of life here, surely, but more important than that, if they will ever encounter the wisdom and experience and insight that lives here as well.

We arrived at eight o’clock to a literacy circle already underway being conducted in a small, poorly-lit classroom. And here in an odd and dark space, a sun was shining: ten people had pulled their chairs close together—a young woman maybe 19, a grandmother maybe 65, two men in their 40s—each struggling to read. And I thought of a poem called A Poor Woman Learns to Write by Margaret Atwood about a woman working laboriously to print her name in the dirt. She never thought she could do it, the poet notes, not her– this writing business was for others. But she does it, prints her name, her first word so far, and she looks up and smiles— for she did it right.

The woman in the poem—just like the students in Mission Robinson—is living out a universal dialectic that embodies education at its very best: she wrote her name, she changed herself, and she altered the conditions of her life. As she wrote the word, she changed the world, and another world became—suddenly and surprisingly—possible.

I began teaching when I was 20 years old in a small freedom school affiliated with the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. The year was 1965, and I’d been arrested in a demonstration. Jailed for ten days, I met several activists who were finding ways to link teaching and education with deep and fundamental social change. They were following Dewey and DuBois, King and Helen Keller who wrote: “We can’t have education without revolution. We have tried peace education for 1,900 years and it has failed. Let us try revolution and see what it will do now.”

I walked out of jail and into my first teaching position—and from that day until this I’ve thought of myself as a teacher, but I’ve also understood teaching as a project intimately connected with social justice. After all, the fundamental message of the teacher is this: you can change your life—whoever you are, wherever you’ve been, whatever you’ve done, another world is possible. As students and teachers begin to see themselves as linked to one another, as tied to history and capable of collective action, the fundamental message of teaching shifts slightly, and becomes broader, more generous: we must change ourselves as we come together to change the world. Teaching invites transformations, it urges revolutions small and large. La educacion es revolucion!

I taught at first in something like a Simoncito—called Head Start—and eventually taught at every level in barrios and prisons and insurgent projects across the United States. I learned then that education is never neutral. It always has a value, a position, a politics. Education either reinforces or challenges the existing social order, and school is always a contested space – what should be taught? In what way? Toward what end? By and for whom? At bottom, it involves a struggle over the essential questions: what does it mean to be a human being living in a human society?

Totalitarianism demands obedience and conformity, hierarchy, command and control. Royalty requires allegiance. Capitalism promotes racism and militarism – turning people into consumers, not citizens. Participatory democracy, by contrast, requires free people coming together voluntarily as equals who are capable of both self-realization and, at the same time, full participation in a shared political and economic life.

Education contributes to human liberation to the extent that people reflect on their lives, and, becoming more conscious, insert themselves as subjects in history. To be a good teacher means above all to have faith in the people, to believe in the possibility that people can create and change things. Education is not preparation for life, but rather education is life itself ,an active process in which everyone— students and teachers– participates as co-learners.

Despite being under constant attack from within and from abroad, the Bolivarian revolution has made astonishing strides in a brief period: from the Mission Simoncito to the Mission Robinson to the Mission Ribas to the Mission Sucre, to the Bolivarian schools and the UBV, Venezuelans have shown the world that with full participation, full inclusion, and popular empowerment, the failings of capitalist schooling can be resisted and overcome. Venezuela is a beacon to the world in its accomplishment of eliminating illiteracy in record time, and engaging virtually the entire population in the ongoing project of education.

The great Chilean poet Pablo Neruda wrote a poem to his fellow writers called “The Poet’s Obligation” in which he instructed them in their core responsibility: you must, he said, become aware of your sisters and brothers who are trapped in subjugation and meaninglessness, imprisoned in ignorance and despair. You must move in and out of windows carrying a vision of the vast oceans just beyond the bars of the prison– a message of hope and possibility. Neruda ends with this: it is through me that freedom and the sea will call in answer to the shrouded heart.

Let those of us who are gathered here today read this poem as “The Teacher’s Obligation.” We, too, must move in and out of windows, we, too, must build a project of radical imagination and fundamental change. Venezuela is poised to offer the world a new model of education– a humanizing and revolutionary model whose twin missions are enlightenment and liberation. This World Education Forum provides us a unique opportunity to develop and share the lessons and challenges of this profound educational project that is the Bolivarian Revolution.

False. Why is the media so reluctant to explore the CAC relationship?

At the risk of being redundant, sometime in 1987 Bill and Bernadine returned home to Chicago, where both had family. Michelle likely already knew both through her Robinson family ties and then in her 1988 work at Sidley Austin, where Bernardine was also employed. It is likely that Barack at least knew of Bill Ayers because he was already involving himself among with the Ayers family and their players in the community. Bill Ayers operated in relative obscurity until February 2008 when his ties to Barack and Michelle Obama became a matter of discussion in Barack’s presidential aspirations.

As a community organizer in Chicago from 1985 to 1988 Barack Obama received funding from and worked with numerous groups, such as Developing Communities Project. Bill Ayers joined in this arena upon his return in 1987 through his own group, Alliance for Better Chicago Schools (ABCs). They both surely crossed paths as Ayer’s father, Tom, provided funding to Barack and Bill through Chicago United, a group of businessmen concerned about race and education issues in Chicago. Tom Ayers was once CEO of Commonwealth Edison (now Exelon) (Steve Diamond, Global Labor and Politics, June 18, 2008). Michelle, the Robinson daughter, continued her own involvement but details are murky at best. Barack Obama shows up again in Chicago after graduating from Harvard Law School, ends up at Davis Miner Barnhill & Galland, and joins the Woods Fund board, 1993, as a freshly minted 32 year old law school graduate, where he remained through 2002 and continued association with until gaining a seat in the U.S. Senate. Bill Ayers formally joined the board in 1999 but had ties throughout the earlier years, including receiving funds from the group.

Anyway, in 1993 Bill began organizing the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Despite his unrepentant terrorist past he succeeded in securing nearly $50 million from Annenberg Challenge and immediately named Barack as his co-chair. Together over the next five years they spent at least $110 million for “radical” school reform in Chicago (Steve Diamond, Global Labor and Politics, June 18, 2008 and August 18, 2008). Then, or shortly afterward, the remains of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge was handed over to Chicago Public Education Fund.

This was a small circle of people, families, and businesses. They were figuratively partners in crime, Chicago’s political mafia enriching themselves through their political position, through federal, local, and state funding, and through their positions and funds given from private organizations, especially, of immediately focus here, from the Woods Fund and Annenberg Challenge. It is likely that there are other organizations and people involved and this needs to be explored further. Stanley Kurtz, Steve Diamond, and others are now beginning to look into what Annenberg Challenge did with its more than $160 million in private and federal dollars.

But first, let’s get back to Barack, Bill, and Bernadine. Again, Michelle plays at least a bit role in this but to what extent is still unclear. Over the years Barack, Bill, Bernadine, and Michelle show up together, along with other Chicago figures that include Rev. Wright, Minister Farrakhan, Rev. Meeks, Rev. Pfleger, Sen. Jones, and many, many more. Throughout this Barack also had his early ties with friend, businessman, and political financier Tony Rezko and Rezko’s partners and associates. And finally, let’s also not forget organizations that received funding from Barack and Bill, such as:

Deconstrusting the New York Times Obama-Ayers story. In effect, the New York Times dutifully 'reported' this story in order to minimize the connection between Obama and Ayers and excuse it. It's an Obamedia masterpiece of bias. Yet Stanley Kurtz is there to point out the obvious gaps in the story:

Or, as New York Times reporter Scott Shane puts it at the head of his article, since an initial lunchtime meeting in 1995, "their paths have crossed sporadically...at a coffee Mr. Ayers hosted for Mr. Obama’s first run for office, on the schools project (i.e. the Chicago Annenberg Challenge) and a charitable board, and in casual encounters as Hyde Park neighbors."
There is nothing "sporadic" about Barack Obama delivering hundreds of thousands of dollars over a period of many years to fund Bill Ayers’ radical education projects, not to mention many millions more to benefit Ayers’ radical education allies. We are talking about a substantial and lengthy working relationship here, one that does not depend on the quality of personal friendship or number of hours spent in the same room together (although the article greatly underestimates that as well).
Shane’s article buys the spin on Ayers’ supposed rehabilitation offered by the Obama campaign and Ayers’ supporters in Chicago. In this view, whatever Ayers did in the 1960's has somehow been redeemed by Ayers’ later turn to education work. As the Times quotes Mayor Daley saying, "People make mistakes. You judge a person by his whole life." The trouble with this is that Ayers doesn’t view his terrorism as a mistake. How can he be forgiven when he’s not repentant? Nor does Ayers see his education work as a repudiation of his early radicalism. On the contrary, Ayers sees his education work as carrying on his radicalism in a new guise. The point of Ayers’ education theory is that the United States is a fundamentally racist and oppressive nation. Students, Ayers believes, ought to be encouraged to resist this oppression. Obama was funding Ayers’ "small schools" project, built around this philosophy. Ayers’ radicalism isn’t something in the past. It’s something to which Obama gave moral and financial support as an adult. So when Shane says that Obama has never expressed sympathy for Ayers’ radicalism, he’s flat wrong. Obama’s funded it.

The Times article purports to resolve the matter of Ayers’ possible involvement in Obama’s choice to head the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, yet in no way does so. Clearly, the article sides with those who claim that Ayers was not involved. Yet the piece has no credibility because it simply refuses to present the arguments of those who say that Ayers almost surely had a significant role in Obama’s final choice.

Buck up. This campaign has not seen its final twist or turn yet, and McCain is in the game and is the better man to lead the nation.

Keep working. Convince your friends, especially if you are in a swing state. Swing staters: drag your like-minded friends to the polls to vote. Don't take no for an answer. They are trying to suppress turnout, it will not work unless you let it work. Drag 10 people with you to the polls, drag them to early vote if you are in one of those states that allows it. Volunteer to make phone calls for a weekend, for two hours, whatever you can do.

All is not lost, but it will be very close. Something big is on the way. It will help a lot but things will still be close, the media will try to suppress it. But it is coming.

Stay focused. No whining. Get moving.

6 points can be made up in a single day. That day is coming but the next 2 weeks will be tough and the final two weeks will be total chaos in the media.

When your friends tell you that Mccain has lost, dispute it. Get in their face. Tell them that something is coming. Something big. A game changer is on the way. Bolster their spirits. Obama is the one who will look desperate very soon and all these polls will look idiotic.

But the media and obama will fight like a wounded animal when this hits, and a wounded animal is the most dangerous of all. It will not be handed to us on a silver platter, but the opportunity will present itself soon. Capitalizing on that opportunity is the key. If we give up now, if we turn away, when that opportunity presents itself we won't be in a position to take full advantage.

So hang in there. When it happens you will know it. You won't have to believe me. You won't need anyone to tell you. You will instantly understand when you see it. Just be prepared.

The reasons Obama may win are obvious - up in the polls, running on 'tax cuts', President in other party is not popular. But there is a flipside favorable to McCain and Palin:

5) The Palins ARE America and the conservative base. America and the conservative base will vote accordingly.
6) The Christian base that re-elected Bush in 2004, knows Sarah is more than a Sunday Christian, and is praying for her.
7) InTrade.com had Kerry as an 80/20 favorite on election morning 2004.
8) Polls are meant by the liberal media, to SHAPE public opinion, not report it.
9) Obama's lies and dishonesty on the campaign will catch up with him when McCain nails him on it.
10) Democratic consultants freaking out over Obama mis-managing his campaign before they settled into poll alteration.
11) The Enemedia is already spreading the meme that if Obama loses, it “is racism”. They see the tea leaves
12) The Media was calling the election for Kerry ELECTION MORNING in 2004
13) McCain has not yet played either the Jeremiah Wright card nor the Tony Rezko card, and Wright is pissed at Obama and writing a book!
14) Plenty of white Democratic voters are unimpressed with Obama, and will not vote for him.
15) Obama has only 60% of the Jewish vote, compared to the 75% Kerry got.

Most importantly, with the bailout package passed, the election campaign will get back to the basic question of who these candidates really are, and they will both be given a second look.

It's amazing that, a few months back, in the Spring, the economy was accelerating. Summer brought the highest oil prices in history - a bubble - and the fall has brought reversals, both in oil and the stock markets. I do believe that, thanks to a panic in the credit markets these past few weeks, a recession is likely.

However, the claims and panic-button declarations of 'another Great Depression' are wrong. This is the biggest CON JOB in history! We do not face a Great Depression or anything close to it, and up until Q2 08 we were not even in recession. We were, until a panic of the elites a few weeks back, digesting the housing bubble burst in a reasonable fashion. The number of banks that are unstable is tiny compared to the thousands of steady and stable banks out there. Credit was pentiful and interest rates reasonable.

Then something happened: History may record that Paulson threw the election to Obama. Paulson took actions that created a political crisis atmosphere well beyond a mere Wall Street bear rout. Now, the panic has set in, we lost 20% in stock market value and the word 'crisis' is bandied around and comparisons (completely unwarranted) to Great Depression made. I agree our economy may be in trouble - mainly due to the fact that we face the threat OF DEMOCRATS RUNNING IT INTO THE GROUND unhindered by any opposition to their bad ideas.

This Wall St panic has managed to help Obama gain in the polls, and at least a part of me is suspicious that on the part of many players, these events were milked and exagerrated on purpose to that effect.

The hard left's seven year rage against George Bush has disfigured the politics of the country, but it hasn't infected the large center or demoralized the principled right. Three quarters of the country know the sort of enemy we face around the globe and sense as well the seriousness of the economic risk that faces us and which must be met and managed from maturity and a belief in growth and capitalism's essential genius. The country has never embraced class warfare, and knows that a lurch to the left now would cripple the vast engine of productivity that is the key to a steady recovery of confidence.
We do not desire to become Europe. We do not fear our neighbors or hate our political opponents or mock religion. Large portions of Obama's most dedicated supporters do. The MoveOn.org of "General Betrayus" and the Al Franken wing of the Democrats have tried without success to moderate their rhetoric, and the issue of Michelle Obama's lack of pride in the country have been erased from the fall campaign, but as the decision grows close, mist voters will be turning over all of these things in their head, and assessing the very different futures in front of the country.

Here are two dozen reasons to vote against Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. I found one of my most widely read and circulated columns was the one on "Twenty-two reasons to vote against Obama" (Sept. 1, 2008) at www.thebulletin.us. So I've updated and expanded that column and here it is.

1. Sen. Obama says Iran is a tiny country that doesn't pose a real threat to us. Here is some of his exact language as reported by ABC: "If Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance." That's ridiculous. Iran is killing Americans in Iraq all the time and sending weapons and terrorists to kill Americans among others. Iran has developed ballistic missiles and is getting close to going nuclear. And yet, Sen. Obama thinks Iran doesn't pose a serious threat to us, and even if they eventually do pose such a threat, "they wouldn't stand a chance." That is incredible nonsense of the first water. They may well try to smuggle a suitcase nuke into the U.S. or a dirty bomb of some sort. Why wouldn't that pose a serious threat and why would they not stand a chance? But wait a minute. Isn't killing and trying to kill Americans and American servicemen a "serious threat?" They've already killed Americans and others around the world.

2. Sen. Obama says the present financial crisis is the most serious threat to our financial system since the Great Depression. Yet, he didn't go to Washington as Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., did to try to resolve the problem, and showed up only for the vote. He says, I have a phone, if you need me call me. The nation is on the edge of an abyss holding on by its fingernails, and he says if you need him call. Is that the way to handle a major crisis? This is another variety of his voting present more than 100 times in the Illinois legislature, meaning he doesn't want to vote yes or no, but wants to sit on the sidelines and not take a position.

3. During the presidential debates, Sen. Obama never used the word "victory" once. He also avoids the words "Islamofascist terrorists." Do we really want a commander in chief who omits the word "victory" from his vocabulary but incessantly calls for retreat and defeat in Iraq? Do we really want a commander in chief who refuses to use the words necessary to describe those that are now warring against us, now plotting terrorist attacks upon us, and are now killing or trying to kill Americans in Iraq and across the globe?

4. Sen. Obama keeps saying, "Put the middle class first." Do we really want a president who engages in class warfare? Why should the "middle class be first" ahead of all others? Why should those who are not in the middle class all come in second? Shouldn't all Americans get the same treatment regardless of "class?" In fact why is "class" even part of the vocabulary of presidential politics?

5. Sen. Obama simply won't admit he makes mistakes and turns away criticism of any kind as off-limits because it is the "old politics." Even when everyone proclaimed the surge as a success, Sen. Obama refused to admit it was a success, and went into verbal gyrations of the most extreme form to try to paint the surge as a mistake. One important quality of presidential leadership is the ability to admit mistakes. Sen. Obama lacks this essential quality of leadership and of honesty.

6. Do we want a president who voted for infanticide and murder? There is now proof beyond contradiction that Sen. Obama voted against a bill in the Illinois legislature that would have given an infant that survived a botched abortion the right to medical care. This voting position has been confirmed seven ways to Sunday, and yet Sen. Obama tries to lie out of it. This simply proves he is an advocate of infanticide and political lies.

7. Sen. Obama has the distinction of being the most radical pro-abortion advocate in the Senate. He has said, "The first thing I'd do as president would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act." This legislation would wipe out all restrictions on abortion imposed by federal or state laws, including the ban on partial birth abortion. Sen. Obama, who once taught constitutional law, thinks the chief purpose of our constitution is to legalize and facilitate abortion in all forms and in all circumstances without any restrictions or limitations. This is just one sign of Sen. Obama's extremism and radicalism that pervades his thinking, policies and associates.

8. Should the highest office of the land go to someone who campaigns as a race baiter and a race hustler? You've heard the sound bites from Sen. Obama that play the race card in various ways. Sen. Obama says the Republicans will try to scare you, as I have a funny name, and as I don't look like the other presidents. And then he adds that I'm also black. If that's not race baiting what is it?

9. Sen. Obama's tax policy shows that he is so enslaved to his radical, socialistic, redistribution ideas that he can't even set rational policy. His crowing glory of irrationality is a proposal to raise the capital gains tax, even though he knows that will cut tax revenue. He says that's because of his insistence on "fairness." Dr. Ernie Goss, an economist at Creighton University, said of this proposal, "Too bad that even the poor will end up with a larger piece of a smaller pie." Sen. Obama, the ideologue, puts his leftist ideology ahead of reason. Dr. Goss put this tax idea at the head of his list of the dumbest economic moves of the year.

10. Another one of Dr. Goss's list of dumbest economic moves of the year is the Obama proposal for a windfall profits tax on oil companies. This is dumb on multiple counts. First, it will cut oil production, as the more you tax something the less you get. It will discourage further production and further exploration of alternative energy sources. Second, it will put American oil companies at a disadvantage in global competition. Sen. Obama has a knack of packing a lot of stupidity into a single proposal. But he can't help himself. It's part of the Sen. Obama/Democratic Party reflex action to soak the rich, to tax and to spend. When you're talking about close to a trillion dollars in new spending, when you're promising everybody everything (health care, tax cuts, tuition payments, etc.), you have to stay up nights dreaming up new ways to tax.

11. Another wacky and unsound tax proposal of Sen. Obama's is to abolish income taxes for all senior citizens making less than $50,000. This shows Sen. Obama's radical, extremist approach as the idea has been condemned by almost everyone. Both the Brookings Institute and the Urban Institute panned the idea: "The proposal would exempt comparatively well-off, though not affluent, senior citizens from taxes and give them a benefits not generally available to working Americans." Investor's Business Daily (Aug. 13, 2008) points out that due to an array of resources seniors are now better off in many cases than their kids and grandkids. What's more the poverty rate of seniors has gone down from 35 percent in the late 1950s to about 10 percent today. This is just another reckless promise Sen. Obama tosses out to win votes and to please his far-left liberal base.

12. To appreciate the full stupidity of the Sen. Obama tax approach, you have to put it into a broader context. He wants to go on a spending binge, including such things as universal health care, just like Congressmen get. So he's promising everyone a Cadillac of health care at a time when we're under a budget-breaking, back-breaking deficit arising out of entitlements already on the books such as Medicare and Social Security. The total unfunded liability of Medicare and Social Security is now $85 trillion (yes, trillion with a "T"). And Sen. Obama is going full steam for even more entitlements. He hasn't figured out how to finance Medicare for those 65, and older, a program which is breaking us. But now he wants to dramatically extend that program to the whole population. You're supposed to learn to walk before you try to fly.

13. In case you think that Sen. Obama might leave one piece of the economy undisturbed and undestroyed you're wrong. He has proposed killing NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement. He said that NAFTA was "devastating" and "a big mistake." One of his advisers told Canadian officials that his call to kill NAFTA was just part of overheated campaign rhetoric, and Sen. Obama has since partially flip-flopped, admitting NAFTA was at least a partial success. What he would do about NAFTA if elected is hard to say, as he lacks core principles that control what he says. But the unions oppose free trade so Sen. Obama will, too.

14. The best example of his total lack of core principles is his reversal on public financing of campaigns. Such campaign financing was about as central to what he claimed to believe as anything. He proclaimed his dedication at all times in all ways to public financing. Of course, as soon as he realized he could raise more money by not adhering to public financing, he shifted his position. This is just another one of his endless flip-flops that suggest his only principle is getting elected and advancing his personal interests. What would you expect from someone who came right out of the most corrupt political machine in America - the Cook County Chicago political machine - to which he is still attached.

15. Don't forget that Sen. Obama is at core a radical, an extremist, and a liberal. The National Journal found him to be the most liberal member of the Senate, more liberal than Sen. John Kerry, Sen. Edward Kennedy, and Sen. Joe Biden. He has surrounded himself with "political, social, and spiritual mentors who are so far to the left that many push the envelope on ideological respectability" (David Freddoso, The Case Against Barack Obama). You can be sure that if elected his cabinet and other appointees will come from that same group of liberals, radicals and extremists that he has always associated with.

16. Sen. Obama's record shows that he says one thing but does the opposite. His rhetoric has no relation to his reality. He talks about bipartisanship and bringing us altogether. Yet careful studies show he votes the party line almost exclusively, and he and his supporters are unable to specify a single time when he went against his party's call on any matter of significance.

17. Sen. Obama, among his many other qualities, is a certified liar. Perhaps the best proof of that is his 20-year association with Rev. Jeremiah "God Damn America" Wright. He was a member of Wright's Trinity Church, he sat in the pews with his wife, he received the church's newsletter, he was a close associate of Rev. Wright's and even worked with him. He read the Chicago press, which often reported on Rev. Wright's raving and ranting, and yet when the media exposed Wright's view, he claimed he didn't know anything about it. This led to a Jackie Mason joke - he never listened even though he was there, he said these things on Tuesday and he was there on Thursday, etc. In fact, there is good reason to believe that Sen. Obama joined Rev. Wright's church because he was attracted to his beliefs. As Mr. Muravchik points out in an important article in Commentary (October 2008) titled "Obama's Leftism," "Obama, under pressure from the Hillary Clinton campaign, declared himself 'shocked' at Wright's vitriol. But in truth not only was he aware of Wright's views, they were what had drawn him to Trinity church in the first place." Either Sen. Obama was aware of Wright's racist and anti-American views for 20 years, or he is the dumbest man in America.

18. Another one of his noteworthy lies relates to whether he was ever a Muslim. Daniel Pipes has carefully documented his Muslim's connections in an article titled "Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood: How his deception about his past makes him unfit to be president." Mr. Pipes shows how he was educated, raised and worshipped as a Muslim in his childhood. Mr. Pipes writes, "Obama's having been born and raised a Muslim and having left the faith to become a Christian make him neither more nor less qualified to become president of the United States. But if he was born and raised a Muslim and is now hiding that fact, this points to a major deceit about himself that has profound implications about his character and suitability as president."

19. His speeches call for energy independence but his proposals and record call for continued energy dependence. Like the Democratic leadership in Congress, he opposes drilling and coal. These are the energy sources that dwarf what's in Saudi Arabia and could make us energy independent. His most famous energy initiative is to have everyone check their tires and tune-up their cars.

20. He has a remarkably thin resume, and seems to have spent most of his time in advancing himself rather than any cause or idea. In fact, those who have studied his career say that they can't find a single accomplishment of significance during his working life.

21. He has committed a series of gaffes that might have sunk another candidate. One of my favorites is his call to send the dispute between Russia and Georgia to the U.N. Security Council, apparently unaware that Russia has a veto in the Security Council. He said one of the first things he'd do is tell the Joint Chiefs of Staff to make plans to withdraw from Iraq. The Joint Chiefs don't even have jurisdiction to do that, as it rests with field commanders. Even after it has been pointed out many times he's off base on this, he keeps repeating the proposal. Another colossal gaffe is his moral equivalence between Russian aggression in Georgia and the U.S.'s liberation of Iraq.

22. As his own friendly biographer has pointed out, Obama is comfortable with anti-American types and seems to run with them. That may explain his objections to wearing an American flag on his lapel, his unwillingness to place his hand over his heart during "The Star-Spangled Banner," and similar suggestions of anti-Americanism. This also may explain his long-time association with unrepentant terrorist and America hater William Ayres.

23. Take all this and multiply it by 100. That's because the mainstream media, the largest media segment in America, has not vetted Sen. Obama and has acted like it is his campaign manager, not a journalistic institution. If the mainstream media had questioned and investigated Sen. Obama, based on what's come out to date, the record and views of Sen. Obama would get even more frightening.

24. When you cut through all the reasons, you come down to a candidate who is an eloquent windbag, who can deliver speeches, but who has dangerous ideas and dangerous associates, and who has demonstrated he can't accomplish anything but deliver fancy rhetoric. As the great columnist Thomas Sowell, whose work appears in The Bulletin, summarized it, "Obama of course has his usual answer: talk. Rhetoric seems to be his answer to everything." So if you want sparkling oratory containing empty words and meaningless generalities, elect Sen. Obama. With his speeches you will also get disaster on the domestic and foreign policy front, but you'll get an endless flow of pretty speeches. But they may not be worth the price of destroying America.

America is about to make the worst voting mistake in our lifetimes. If polls are to be believed, the junior Senator Barack Hussein Obama, who never had to meet a payroll or held any serious private sector jobs (except being a leftwing activist for ACORN in Chicago), will be our Chief Executive.

One of the reason Obama is doing well is that people are worried about the economy. While there are reasons for concern, the current crisis has been overhyped to stampede Congress into an unwise bailout and stampede the people into voting for Obama. Our current hangover from a housing bubble induced by excessive subprime lending is leading to home prices defclines, higher foreclosure rates, a weak economy, and a crisis in the financial industry as bank and investment houses have lost significant capital and some have gone under. As with the bubble bursting in internet, techs and telecoms in 2001-2003, this bubble bursting may well lead to a recession, although we were not in one up until this quarter.

At times of crisis like this, it makes sense to ask:
How did we get here?
Obama says that deregulation caused the current crisis. He is wrong.

This was partly due to over-expansionistic Fed policy, but mostly, the core problem was and is subprime lending combined with the housing bubble (which subprime lending helped foster). Subprime lending combined with a fall in housing values post-bubble has led to higher foreclosure rates, which has fed even more housing price declines.

The seed of this core problem was planted by ACORN and their push for sub-prime lending with the CRA. CRA led to massive increases in subprime lending, and massive increases in subprime lending is at the root of this. ACORN was represented by Barack Obama when he was a leftwing community activist. Barack Obama was the attorney representing ACORN in their effort in the 1990s to loosen lending standards. The efforts by ACORN worked. An enthusiastic Fannie Mae Foundation report in 2003 singled out one paragon of nondiscriminatory lending, which worked with community activists and followed “the most flexible underwriting criteria permitted.” That lender’s $1 billion commitment to low-income loans in 1992 had grown to $80 billion by 1999 and $600 billion by early 2003. That company was Countrywide Financial, which also gave sweetheart deals to Democrats in Congress like Sen Chris Dodd for political cover.

Bad underwriting was getting hidden by corrupt CEOs like Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson at Fanne Mae and hackles were raised. But Democrats turned back the efforts to reofrm Fannie Mae. In 2005, Obama protected Fannie Mae when McCain and Republicans wanted better oversight of them. Fannie Mae underwrote close to a trillion in subprime loans in the past 4 years, inciting the current mortgage crisis.

What's our current situation?
The financial system is ailing, but most banks that we not overleveraged are doing well. Unemployment is still lower than the average of the past 30 years, but is rising. The stock market is volatile and in a bear market. We are not in a very serious crisis, but rather we are in a difficult time of readjustment from a bubble. Just as there is no way to survive a cat 5 hurricane without damage, there is no way to get through this without some economic pain.

The media want to tell you its the end of the world. Its a lie. Its just a narrative designed to get Obama elected and viewers biting their nails. Relax a bit. There have been recessions about once every 6 to 8 years, and financial crises of various types over our lifetimes. An economic cycle gets over-extended, investments go sour, people pull back, and we repair and move on. Now is a good time to gut-check your investments, your debt and credit rating, your job, your bank account, your housing situation, and your life goals. Now is a good time to invest sensibly if you can, cut debt you shouldn't have, and make sure you aren't an unemployment statistic. Now is not the time to panic or think the world as we know it will end. It won't.

What's the best way forward?

The best way forward is a policy of long-term economic growth. Short-term quick fixes like "stimulus" payments will only make the Government's fiscal condition worse and will not do much good. Stable, low tax rates and regulation reform is the best way forward. McCain has the right approach, Obama has the wrong approach.

Obama wants higher taxes on income, on payroll, on companies and small business. His 'middle-class tax cut' is actually a welfare payment scheme that makes the system more complicated and puts top earners in 50%+ ranges, at levels where the disincentives are so great it will harm the ecnomy without raising revenue.

Worse, Obama will add excessive spending, pork, and earmarks to worsen our fiscal condition. The Democrats run Congress now and have always had enough influence to protect their own special interests. The Dems protected fannie in 2005 when Republicans wanted better oversight. Obama is in deep with Raines and Johnson and got more Fannie Mae money than anyone except Chris Dodd, who was #1 recipient. Fannie Mae incited the subprime lending boom and bust. Meanwhile the Dems are the majority in Congress and have managed to destroy trust and confidence in Govts handling of the economy through repeated attacks on CEOs, on business ('big oil' etc), tax hikes, regulation attempts/sprees, and wild meddling. In this bailout bill alone, they wanted a budget-busting diversion of money to ACORN, a 'destroy-mortgage-contracts' clause on bankruptcy, unions on corporate boards, and Govt ownership of banks. Socialist is no longer a hyperbolic term for these guys (the good news is that the bailout bill has removed most of the poison-pill provisions).

What a sad and sorry spectacle: The Dems cause a problem, the Repubs get the blame, the Dems gain more power and cause more problems - rinse and repeat. We had FDR, we had LBJ and now we will get BHO, the third Liberal Reich.

Putting leftwing activist Obama and his fellow Democrats Dodd etal in charge is rewarding incompetence, corruption and bad intentions. The pro-Obama media will not tell the truth about Obama’s links to ACORN and CRA, and will not point out the serious links that tie him to left-wing extremists or to the corrupt insiders to incited this crisis. They will continue to lamely and falsely blame "deregulation" when in fact Government INTERVENTION AND LEFT-WING ACTIVISM is the real problem.

Putting Obama in charge of the economy is like putting an arsonist in charge of the fire department.

THE #1 THREAT TO OUR FREEDOM AND PROSPERITY RIGHT NOW IS ELECTING OBAMA.

Obama's Leftwing Manufactured Crisis Strategy

Barack Obama and the strategy of the manufactured crisis is a must-read that ties in Barack Obama's left-wing community activist roots to ACORN and the creation of the current subprime mortgage crisis:

ACORN showed its colors again in 1991, by taking over the House Banking Committee room for two days to protest efforts to scale back the CRA. Obama represented ACORN in the Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank Fed. Sav. Bank, 1994 suit against redlining. Most significant of all, ACORN was the driving force behind a 1995 regulatory revision pushed through by the Clinton Administration that greatly expanded the CRA and laid the groundwork for the Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac borne financial crisis we now confront. Barack Obama was the attorney representing ACORN in this effort. With this new authority, ACORN used its subsidiary, ACORN Housing, to promote subprime loans more aggressively.

The article ties together the loose connections between the various leftwing groups that have been supporting Obama and supporting the leftwing causes that Obama has supported. As comment on the article notes: "Obama represents a very serious threat because he is the first virus from a virulent strain of Alinsky activism to infect successfully our national political processes." The first, at least, to actually be in the White House.

Bad-Choice Barack Picks Sub-Average Joe

The O team has decided on Joe Biden (D - Beltway Establishment) to give us the OBAMA BIN BIDEN ticket. This is a great pick ... for the Republicans. Here's why the thin man has blown his first decision:

1. Like when Obama picked Eric Holder and Jim Johnson to do vetting itself, it's another DC insider appointment. "So much for hope and change." There IS no real change with Obama, it's just big, meaningless, campaign hype to present the same old liberal policies of Mondale, Dukakis and Kerry in a shiny new package. Even AP says: "The candidate of change went with the status quo."

2. Biden is a gaffe machine who has already made the case for McCain over Obama in previous comments.

Biden, on a post-debate appearance on MSNBC, October 30, 2007: “The only guy on the other side who’s qualified is John McCain.”

Biden appearing on The Daily Show, August 2, 2005: “John McCain is a personal friend, a great friend, and I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off, be well off no matter who...”

Biden spent most of 2007 running on 'experience' and reminding people of its importance in the White House. Biden in an interview with the Huffington Post, he assessed Obama and Clinton: “The more people learn about them (Obama and Hillary) and how they handle the pressure, the more their support will evaporate.”

Biden said in a campaign ad, “When this campaign is over, political slogans like ‘experience’ and ‘change’ will mean absolutely nothing. The next president has to act.” When Obama gave a speech saying he’d send troops into Pakistan, Biden told NPR that “It’s a well-intentioned notion he has, but it’s a very naïve way of thinking how you’re going to conduct foreign policy. ... Having talking points on foreign policy doesn’t get you there."

He also released an ad that said: ”The White House isn't a place to learn how to deal with international crisis, the balance of power ... the economic future of the next generation,' the narrator of Biden's 1988 ad for the Democratic nomination said. "The president has got to know the territory.” (Source: Politico.)

Then there is this, which sums up the clear put-down of inexperienced Obama that the McCain campaign is using already in ads - Video here:

“You were asked, “Is he ready?” You said, ‘I think he can be ready but right now, I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.’”
Mr. Biden: “I think that I stand by the statement.”

3. Forget the 'Biden is a centrist' talk. Biden was for Iraq war, but is otherwise quite liberal. His lifetime ACU rating is 14%. The most liberal U.S. Senator picked the third most liberal Senator as a running mate. The kind of guy who says: "I WOULD LET THE TAX CUTS FOR ALL OF THE MIDDLE CLASS LAPSE". We still have the most liberal ticket ever, that outdoes Kerry and Mondale tickets in being way to the left. Ticket is more liberal than Chomsky/Ward Churchill: "In the coming days, you will hear every single moron in the national Barrystream Media talk about Biden's moderate stances on things. That is quite frankly, yet another lie from our media. Biden is almost as far to the left as Barry Obama."

4. Sub-average Joe had trouble in College and wiki tried to cover it up when he got picked! This is the watered-down version:

"at Syracuse Law School, Biden had plagiarized a law review article in a class paper he wrote ... Biden drew "chunks of heavy legal prose directly from" the article in question. ... Biden was permitted to retake the course after receiving a grade of F, which was subsequently dropped from his record. ... Biden had claimed falsely to have graduated in the "top half" of his class, (when he actually graduated 76th in a class of 85). that he had attended on a full scholarship, and had received three degrees.[29] In fact he had received two majors, History and Political Science, and a single B.A., as well as a half scholarship based on financial need."

The non-watered-down version mentions his actual undergrad grades at U. of Delaware (on Newsbusters link). Ouch! F in ROTC, C and D's except for an A in physical education.At the University of Delaware, Biden was 506th out of 688 classmates. Sub-average Joe did his share of partying.

5. Biden voted for the Iraq war and has at times expressed support for it in ways that steps on the "Bush is a warmongering fool" meme. "I still believe that Saddam possessed weapons of mass destruction and that the war in Iraq was justified." - Joe Biden, 2003 on the Iraq War

6. With a white-haired dude VP pick who is old enough to collect social security checks, the issue of McCain’s age is now off the table.

7. Biden's gaffes are legion:
- Barry and I have been tested for AIDS
- Biden: "I’M A BIG FAN OF JIMMY CARTER’S. I WAS, AS YOU REMEMBER, HIS NATIONAL CAMPAIGN CHAIRMAN IN 1976, THE FIRST PERSON TO ENDORSE HIM."
- Biden's infamous 'clean' comment on Obama: “the first mainstream African American [candidate] who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”
- Biden gets out of hand dissing DeLay: “The next Republican that tells me I’m not religious, I’m gonna shove my rosary beads down their throat!”
- Biden on President Bush: “This guy is brain dead. I know I’ll be quoted, I’ll be killed for that.” July 2007 (Source: FR.)
- Some of Biden's comments have bordered on the insensitive to racist (not just the above one). One infamous one is this: "In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian Americans - moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. The Obama Delusion tells us that the real problem with Obama is not that he's an empty suit, so much as a deceptive salesman for an impossible dream, covering boilerplate left-liberal policies with glad-handling and vague rhetoric:

Obama is largely a stage presence defined mostly by his powerful rhetoric. The trouble, at least for me, is the huge and deceptive gap between his captivating oratory and his actual views. ...If you examine his agenda, it is completely ordinary, highly partisan, not candid and mostly unresponsive to many pressing national problems. ...
He has run on the vague promise of "change," but on issue after issue -- immigration, the economy, global warming -- he has offered boilerplate policies that evade the underlying causes of the stalemates. These issues remain contentious because they involve real conflicts or differences of opinion.

The Liberal Democrats try now and again to evade fighting lost argument by reinventing themselves with names like "New Democrat" and rejecting "liberal" label, but pushing the same slogans. Obama takes a different tack, and weaves his campaign into a narrative of social advance. In other words, vote for the multi-racial multi-culti progressive to get to the Liberal Nirvana. He out Hillary'd Hillary. But in his narrative, the liberal advances in the 1960s were not mistakes but preludes to what is to come. If we rejected 1960s liberalism before, why would we accept its 21st century offspring? The battle is not a new battle after all. These are not new ideas, but old ideas in new package. Obama's 'change' message is simply the tactical call to reject non-liberal policies and move America left.

2. "Obama’s strength in Virginia may be overhyped"; Obama staffers look at the state as a 50-50 proposition, but his odds of winning may be less than that. [If Obama doesn't do very well in the DC suburbs, he will lose VA.]

3. "Michigan's in play for McCain"; the Democrats probably can't win without Michigan. There, "McCain has quietly crept up over the past month and could vault ahead if he anoints ex-Gov. Mitt Romney as his running mate." (Note: Michiganders would have much preferred Hillary Clinton as the candidate.)

4. Difficult economic times can engender fear among voters, and that could benefit McCain, who is more of a known quantity than Obama. (Note: Economics may not be McCain's strong suit, but it also doesn't look like an Obama strength.)

5. McCain doesn't have to face the "Ross Perot factor" that helped Bill Clinton greatly in bringing down George H. W. Bush in 1992;

6. Obama is NOT a white Southerner with border-state strength, the only kind of a Democrat who has won the White House in the last 65 years (LBJ, Carter, and Clinton);

7. "Americans may WANT divided government"; as one Democratic strategist puts it, ". . . Nobody wants a pair of Pelosis [Nancy and Barack] running things."

The Democratic National Committee may be trying to get some mileage out of recent news about oil industry contributions to Republican Sen. John McCain, launching a web site spoofing the idea of McCain sharing his presidential ticket with Exxon. But they may have found an unwelcome surprise in a just-released analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics.
Turns out, the biggest recipient of contributions from Exxon executives and employees during this campaign is not McCain. It's Obama.
The non-partisan center writes: "Through June, Exxon employees have given Obama $42,100 to McCain's $35,166. Chevron favors Obama $35,157 to $28,500, and Obama edges out McCain with BP $16,046 vs. $11,500."

The electoral tide is beginning to turn against the most radical extremist and most inexperienced candidate ever nominated by a major political party. Despite the attempt of the mainstream media to sell Sen. Barack Obama as a virtual Messiah, the truth is finally beginning to leak through to the public. That truth is devastating and should prove to be fatal to his candidacy, showing the would be Democratic Messiah to be a world-class phony and fraud.

Four factors started turning the election around:

* First, Sen. John McCain shifted to hard-hitting and relentless criticism in the last week, and in my view, it is no coincidence in that time that the polls showed a substantial lead by Mr. Obama disappear, and the election shifted into a deadheat. Mr. McCain is still being a little too polite and gentlemanly, but he is getting closer to the tough mode that it will take to expose Mr. Obama for the phony and total fraud that he is.

* Second, Mr. Obama played the race card when he said that the Republicans and Mr. McCain will say he has a funny name and doesn't look like the presidents on the dollar bills. Suddenly, Mr. Obama demonstrated he is not a new kind of politician. He not only demonstrated he is just another grubby campaigner, but also demonstrated he is willing to resort to the sleaziest and slimiest tactics of the race hustlers and race baiters. I don't think the American people approve of Mr. Obama calling a war hero such as Mr. McCain a racist. Mr. Obama knows his racist slander of Mr. McCain is wrong, but a Chicago-machine politician will do anything to win.

* Third, the full picture of Mr. Obama started to come together. It's easy to ignore a Reverend "God Damn America" Wright and a question mark here and there. But when Mr. Obama's record, when his programs, when his associates, when you see Mr. Obama in full with his shocking and devastating lifetime trail, then you quickly realize he is not fit to be president and is the last person in the world we might want as commander in chief. There's too much there to disregard; the record is too damning to ignore; and the facts are too stubborn and overwhelming to refute

* Fourth, the alternative media stepped up reporting on Mr. Obama and three books came out that filled in most of the missing pieces:

(A) Dick Morris and Eileen McGann hit the market first with the book Fleeced. All you have to do is read Chapter I, "President Obama: What Would He Do?" and you realize his plans would wreck our economy, destroy our health delivery system, and downgrade our national defense capability, and endanger our national security.

(B) Then came Jerome R. Corsi and his book, The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality. Mr. Corsi, who is the coauthor of Unfit for Command: Swift boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry, carefully documents Mr. Obama's history from his early days in Hawaii to the present, showing how it all points to disaster for the U.S. if elected president. The book is meticulously sourced with over 700 footnotes and makes a compelling case against Mr. Obama.

Example: Last month the Senate vote for the FISA telecom immunity bill came up. There was a bipartisan agreement to let it pass. The Kennedy left-wing objected of course, but they knew they didn’t have the votes. Per the agreement Hillary and Obama voted to block the left-wing’s immunity-stripping amendments.

The cloture vote came up and both voted for cloture. But at the last second Hillary changed her cloture vote from yea to nay, and Obama had no time to react.

Obama was now stuck in a dilemma. If he voted nay on the final FISA bill it would be a Kerry-esque event (”He voted for it before he was against it!”) and underscore his tendency to flip-flop. Or he could grit his teeth and follow through and watch the netroots howl. (”He wants to shred the Constitution! He voted with Bush!”)

Hillary made sure that Obama was screwed either way.

Obama has been running a swiftboating campaign right out of Karl Rove's playbook. It has often been said that when fascism came to America, it would have a friendly face. What almost no one said was that it would be slipped in by way of the left--and I say this as a lifelong leftist progressive and a registered Democrat. I noticed that something was very wrong on the night of the South Carolina primary, as a theatrically furious Obama delivered his victory speech to a crowd largely made up of white people creepily chanting "Race doesn't matter" when the only reason Obama had won was the black vote. It's fine with me, by the way, if black people want to vote for Obama because he's black. It's about time we had a black president. But it was the doublespeak that set off my alarms. The treatment of Hillary Clinton during this campaign has been a national disgrace. I cannot abide the race-bating, ageist, misogynist, thuggish Obamanazis, and I will not support Obama in the general election. Conscience requires me to sit this one out. In the circumstances, we could do worse than President John McCain, which is what we're likely to get, since Obama 08 = McGovern 72, except that McGovern's campaign never took the low road the way Obama's has done. The Democratic Party's nominating process is deeply flawed. We should not allow anyone but Democrats to vote in our primaries, we should abolish caucuses. I give Obama credit for gaming the system and playing for delegates in tiny Republican-state caucuses. He's a skilled politician. Did Obama play the 'race card' with his talk of saying how his detractors would mention how different he looks from Presidents on dollar bills?

Well, let's spot the differences:

The teeth, Obama must be talking about how he teeth are better than our founding fathers had.

It requires an enabling Obamedia to pull the stunts that Obama has pulled. First, he makes a claim that his opponents will use race in the campaign (like his statement last month). Then when the other campaign objects, the media laments how 'race has become an issue' while covering up for Obama's actions. Folks like Andrea Mitchell go to bat saying the Obama campaign didn't bring up race when they did, to defend and enable this toxic strategy.

Fact is, Obama played the race card from the get-go, tagged Bill Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro as crypto-racists, used moral umbrage to separate Hillary Clinton from black voters, and in general toxify the primary race. It worked, as this trip down memory lane (Feb 2008 TNR piece) reminds us:

To a large degree, the campaign’s strategists turned the primary and caucus race to their advantage when they deliberately, falsely, and successfully portrayed Clinton and her campaign as unscrupulous race-baiters–a campaign-within-the-campaign in which the worked-up flap over the Somali costume photograph is but the latest episode. While promoting Obama as a “post-racial” figure, his campaign has purposefully polluted the contest with a new strain of what historically has been the most toxic poison in American politics.

More than any other maneuver, this one has brought Clinton into disrepute with important portions of the Democratic Party. A review of what actually happened shows that the charges that the Clintons played the “race card” were not simply false; they were deliberately manufactured by the Obama camp and trumpeted by a credulous and/or compliant press corps in order to strip away her once formidable majority among black voters and to outrage affluent, college-educated white liberals as well as college students. The Clinton campaign, in fact, has not racialized the campaign, and never had any reason to do so. Rather the Obama campaign and its supporters, well-prepared to play the “race-baiter card” before the primaries began, launched it with a vengeance when Obama ran into dire straits after his losses in New Hampshire and Nevada–and thereby created a campaign myth that has turned into an incontrovertible truth among political pundits, reporters, and various Obama supporters.

Gallup also had a +4 McCain result, an outlier from the usual polls of Obama leads. As of right now, with both Obama and McCain polling under 50% consistently, neither being ahead by much, and with poll average around a 1-4% Obama lead, this race is still wide open. Either man can win depending on how the campaigns go. Obama's inability, despite huge media and funding advantages and an exciting primary, to be further ahead should be discomforting to the Obama camp. The Republican Presidential candidate since 1972 has generally improved from July to election day, in some cases (like in 1976 and 1988) dramatically.

It won't be until Labor day that we can really take a read on the election polls, but we should treat the election as a toss-up right now.

Really now. What a disappointing list of topics that will do absolutely nothing to tell us who is best to lead.

The Elephant (or donkey) in the room are the major issues least discussed in this race so far: Gay marriage, abortion, and judges.

Gay Marriage: Redefining marriage to include homosexual unions is about to be instituted across America if California doesnt protect
traditional marriage in its state constitution in the election this November. New York state is about to accept marriage licenses from California, and
so the de facto result will be the spread of gay marriage across the country.
McCain is for the Cali amendment protecting marriage. Obama is a against it, and is therefore now in the pro-gay-marriage camp.

Abortion: Obama is a pro-abortion legislator, who has a 100% NARAL record and 0% right-to-life record. Obama even voted
against a bill that would protect infants born alive after ‘botched’ abortions. McCain’s pro-life record is almost the opposite; strong
pro-life record, but in favor of embyonic stem cell research. Both men need to be asked about their positions and asked to defend them.

Judges: McCain voted for Roberts and Alito, Obama voted against both. Judges have too often ruled on matters involving church and
state, in ways that undermines our Christian heritage. They need to be asked to defend their approach to selecting and approving judges.

Education: Obama’s opposition to abstinence education should be brought up, and their views on sex ed. McCain and Obama
differ on school choice. The vital issue of education should be discussed, especially the areas of sex ed, educating moral values and citizenship, and school choice.

Abortion, marriage, education, judges - these are fundamental issues that must be discussed!

Two hours devoted to the questions Rev Warren mentions instead of the above important differences between the two candidates will be a huge missed opportunity. The topics he wants to cover will inform us little:

Poverty: The US Federal Govt spend hundreds of billions of dollars redistributing wealth from taxpayers to address ‘poverty’. There is no leadership issue there, since it takes no leadership to take from Peter to give to Paul, just the power of the state. What would take leadership though is better economic management and economic growth policies that long-term will reduce poverty.
HIV/AIDS: unless the president is actively going to stop STDs, this is more of a “what taxpayer funded program shall we increase?” question. On that score, President Bush’s Africa AIDS initiative got bipartisan support. So this will be a genial agreement area.
Climate: The earth has stopped warming in the past 10 years. It would be better for candidates to say nothing on this, and just wait for the temperature record to tell us if global warming is real or not. So long as the earth is not warming, it’s a non-issue.
Human rights - It might be nice to see one candidate speak out on behalf of the US military and point out that by liberating 50 million people in the past 7 years, no organization has done more to advance human rights in that time period than the U.S. military, but I don’t expect it from Obama, who won’t even credit the military for the successes in Iraq.

On these 4 issues, we will get vague assurances from both candidates that they will ‘do the right thing’. They will not be much different. What’s the point of dwelling on something where they are the same?

50,000 troops!!! In 2012?!?! What happened to 'all troops out except the ones guarding the embassy'? What happened to 'get them out by spring 2008? Why not spring 2009? Out the window.

Just Like Obama's FISA promise, his primary election promises are baggage to be jettisoned at the first available moment. Like now.

If Obama admitted this in January, Hillary would be the nominee. In the Dem primary, Obama hammered Hillary for admitting that we might still have troops in 2013, while Obama touted an ironclad get the troops out ASAP.

This must surely rank as among the most misinformed, ideological, and reckless statements by a presidential candidate in modern times. The McCain campaign should do everything they can to make Obama pay a high price for it. That one word answer, "No," should be advertised in bright neon lights. It should become Exhibit A that Obama not only doesn't have the "judgment to lead;" he has now supplied us with evidence that few people possess judgment as flawed as his.

The evidence that the surge is working is simply beyond dispute. Obama himself has now conceded that part of the argument, even to the point of admitting that victory in Iraq is possible. To admit to progress while still insisting that you would deny the means to that progress is to position of a fool. And this is not an issue of marginal importance. The surge, after all, is easily the most important national security decision and debate we've had since the war to liberate Iraq began in March 2003.

That Obama opposed the surge is bad enough -- but that opposition was not itself irresponsible or unforgiveable. It was understandable, if in retrospect quite wrong, to believe that Iraq, caught in an apparent death spiral in the latter half of 2006, was unsalvageable. Critics of the surge argued that we were sending American troops to die in a lost cause.

It turned out that Iraq was redeemable and that the President's strategy, brilliantly executed by General Petraeus and the American military, worked faster and better than anyone thought possible. To say that he would oppose a military plan that one day may well rank as among the best in our history is stunning. Whatever would motivate Obama to say what he did -- political cowardice, willful denial, astonishing blindness to the facts, or the mindset of an ideologue -- it ought to cause Americans to rethink, in the most fundamental way, whether Obama is responsible enough to be President.

I suppose it's also now reasonable to ask Obama if he would, in hindsight, oppose the Normandy invasion. His judgment is that open to question.

So the big word became "distraction": The Afghan War was necessary -- at least defensible -- but the Iraq War was a mere "distraction."

He does not oppose $5-per-gallon gasoline but only says that he wishes there had been a more “gradual adjustment” to the higher prices.

Obama can talk about the Rev. Wright and flag lapel pins and his wife’s love of America all day long. But what he resists is a specific discussion of his own plans for our country. They could remind you that - according to muslims, if you say the call to prayer, you *are* a muslim. It's like a man reciting the Nicene creed or the Lord's prayer. It makes you go, hmmmm.

"Expat Guy", a blogger out of Indonesia, added some additional flavor by bringing up some quote from friends of "Barry Sotero" (his name back then) to fill in the gaps.Really, Allen and the Washington Post need not have dug so hard and so far to find a trail that really starts at Obama's own words and history. Instead, they should be examining the unexamined question of Barack Obama's real roots, real sentiments and real theology.

It is perhaps the keenest indication that there is something "there" to observe how the Obama camp and their proxies (like Allen, who gave Obama a $2700 contribution), are desperate to get such questions and issues labelled as 'smears' and 'swiftboating'. I thought this was a fluke and that I was alone, until I went to the Hillary Clinton Forum and saw Nobama’s post “Blogger just shut down my NObama Blog!!“

Turns out that a number of us were “blocked”. The common thread, our membership in the Just Say No Deal Coalition — a coalition of millions with one thing in common: NObama. Then, Diane Mantouvalos, one of the founders of the coalition, advised the next day that her personal computer had been hacked.

Well, Obama and his supporters can knock Alice Palmer off the ballot, pilfer Hillary Clinton’s delegates in Michigan, and bamboozle the masses, but he cannot silence us and these tactics will only strengthen our resolve.

Uppity Woman has a running list of blogs affected as well. In an abundance of caution, she’s set up an alternate site to be used if and when her blogger site is blocked completely (I was shocked to learn that since June 3, she’s had to use word verification to create new posts.)

Three ACORN election hoaxers pleaded guilty in October. A King County prosecutor called ACORN's criminal sabotage "an act of vandalism upon the voter rolls."

baby has a heartbeat and fingerprints, parental consent legislation, health and safety

wanting abortions. This is no longer merely a religious issue. Because science has
allowed us to see the unborn baby in the womb (and doctors are now operating on
unborn babies under 22 weeks of age), there is even now an emerging pro-life atheist
movement. And it is no longer a Republican issue as many Democrats in the Congress
are now pro-life and the majority of Americans want reasonable restrictions on
abortion. Obama s views are ghastly and out of the mainstream.
3. Obama has a dangerously naïve view of the War on Terror. His approach is to pull out of
Iraq immediately and focus our attention on prosecuting terrorists through the courts.
Think about this. We only get the opportunity to prosecute terrorists through the courts
after they have committed an act of terror, and then only if we can catch them.
Prosecuting the terrorists who committed the World Trade Center bombings did not
prevent 9/11. One of the masterminds of the World Trade Center bombing who avoided
the law was Khalid Sheikh Mohammed

obliterate Israel. This may sound reasonable to some, but again it is a dangerously naïve
view of the War on Terror. Prior to World War II, British Prime Minister Neville
Chamberlain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neville_Chamberlain) took a similar approach to
Hitler. At the time, Hitler s position of authority was weak as he was appointed
Chancellor while his Nazi party only had 37% of the votes. Chamberlain s visit to Hitler in
Germany strengthened Hitler s prestige and power and this policy of appeasement
ultimately weakened the Allies preparedness. Even Obama s Democrat opponent
Hillary Clinton warned against Obama s approach to appeasement of this extraordinarily
dangerous Iranian leader. Obama must be criticized for not learning from history.
5. Obama has a utopian view of evil, similar to others on the far left. He thinks that we can
just all be nice guys and get along. All of history proves this to be wrong. The great
American leaders have had one thing in common the willingness to stand boldly
against evil. Think of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, and
Ronald Reagan. Barack Obama would sell the American soul to the forces of evil in a
utopian dream. The danger of this cannot be overstated.
6. On the economy, Barack Obama simply does not understand basic economics. For
example, he favors a windfall profits tax on oil companies. Look, the more you tax
something, the less of it you get. We need MORE oil not less. Jimmy Carter tried an
excess profits tax with devastating effects (http://www.taxhistory.org). It didn t work
then, and it won t work now. Carter s experiment stopped domestic energy exploration
and made America more dependent on foreign sources of oil. And why would Obama
single out the oil industry? The facts are that the oil companies make about 8.3 cents in
gross profit per dollar of sales. This is far below many other industries for example,
electronics companies make about 14.5 cents per dollar of sales. Oil and gas companies
made $86.5 billion in profits in 2007; at the same time, the financial services industry
made $498.5 billion. Obama is pushing nonsense.
7. There is no quick fix for high gasoline prices. But if the Congress had acted in the 1990 s
to spur oil production, we would not be in the fix we are today. The fact is inescapable
that liberal Democrats are squarely responsible for blocking all initiatives at a
comprehensive energy plan. I am tired of obstructionists stopping America from moving
forward on energy. We are producing no more oil domestically now than in 1948! We
need to move forward NOW to open drilling with modern environmental safeguards.
We need nuclear energy, more coal, more natural gas, and more oil. We need to open
the door to offshore drilling, onshore shale oil, and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
(ANWR). By the way, ANWR is a frozen tundra with no trees or rivers. The liberals (i.e.
Obama and Company) consistent blocking of development there is based on false
utopian ideas of pristine wilderness. Not only are these ideas false, oil development of
the region would not spoil what is there. Development of ANWR will impact only about
2,000 acres of the 19.9 million acre refuge. Even the residents of the area support
drilling there (http://www.anwr.org/people/people.htm). We heard that the Alaska
pipeline would decimate the caribou; but the caribou are thriving where the pipeline
runs. Obama s response to cries for help from the American people about $4 gasoline is
a deafening silence. Where is the leadership on this key issue from this man? (If he
caves on this between now and the election, it is clear that it is only because of public
outcry.) There is no sense hoping for conservation to solve the problem. We are in a
new era of demand from emerging nations that will overwhelm efforts at conservation.
While the deepening American recession may drop oil prices in the short run, we should
not let any such drop slow our efforts at a comprehensive energy policy.
8. The ultra-environmentalists want to focus all their attention on wind and solar. Great.
Let s go for it. But it cannot solve all our problems. I have extensive personal knowledge
of wind and solar. Because of unique circumstances, my wife and I have to rely on a
solar/wind installation for 100% of our power for our rural Texas home. I can tell you
that off-grid power is so expensive that it will never pay for itself, no matter how high
the price of grid power gets. And it is incredibly wasteful of resources. Environmental
religionists conveniently ignore how much fossil fuel energy it took to mine the lead in
our necessary 48 battery bank (each battery weighs 200 pounds) not to mention the
fossil fuels expended in constructing the building to house the batteries, the resources
to produce the solar panels or the large back-up generator to provide power (when
there is inadequate sun and the batteries are depleted). We are so green we are in the
red. By the way, I am as much of an environmentalist as the next guy. I have worked to
pass environmental legislation in our area. I am enough of an economist to understand
that when there are spillover costs (pollution), the government has a legitimate role to
play. But the problem with extreme environmental positions is that they go beyond
science to a utopian philosophy which pits capitalism against environmentalism. This
ultimately harms not only all of us but the environment as well. It is no accident that the
country with the best environmental record is the USA, which happens to be the beacon
of capitalism.
9. As a Christian, I feel a sense of responsibility to be a good steward to what God has
given us. But Jesus principle commands are to love God and serve our fellow man; there
is no mention in the Bible of worshipping a Mother Earth. By the way, it should be noted
that the no-energy-policy-global-warmist approach is anti-poor. The poorer one is the
more ultra-environmentalism damages the family budget. See

Obama s sensitivity on this? Well, Ok. I ll give him credit for not being uncaring toward
the poor, so he must just be ignorant of this effect.
10. Here s the way I see the ultra-environmentalist movement. When its proponents are
unwilling to listen to contrary evidence, it ceases to be science. There is plenty of
contrary evidence against Al Gore s thesis. But it is accepted by many on faith in the face
of evidence against it. Ultra-environmentalism is a fundamentalist religion. And Obama
is a priest of its dogma.
11. Obama said that small-town Americans cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people
who aren t like them out of bitterness over lost jobs. I must say, this statement stunned
me. I was beginning to have some suspicions about who Obama really is, and this
confirmed it for me. Those who say that he is a liberal elitist have evidence to back it up.
Such comments are especially telling coming from a man who claims to be bringing
Americans together. I m proud to have friends from all socio-economic levels and am
concerned that a President Obama would push this country further in the direction of
the two Americas of John Edwards and Howard Dean. This is not healthy. I want to see
America ONE Nation under God again, fighting shoulder-to-shoulder against evil and
toward noble shared goals such as going to the moon and energy independence.
12. A bit more on this two Americas notion. Have you noticed how some liberals though
certainly not all tend to vilify successful men and institutions? I don t think I have to
name names of those on the receiving end of this hatred. If I am wrong, none will come
to mind. If I am right, many will come to mind. But I will mention one group
evangelical Christians, of whom I am one. Never in my life have I seen this group
experience such disdain. The idea of tolerance from liberals stops here. I m sure that
when people figure out that I believe that Christianity is true all of it that my
arguments in this essay will be rejected out of hand, no matter how reasonable. I
welcome the other side s views if they can back them up with reason and evidence. But I
don t think this openness comes back the other way. Thus the times we live in.
13. And what of this Rev. Jeremiah Wright association? Along with Rev. Wright s hateful
comments about the America I love we note Michelle Obama s comments about how
she has never before been proud of her country. It seems that Senator Obama lives in a
world of hatred and distrust toward America. How can we expect to get anything better
if he is President?
14. In a Wall Street Journal interview, Senator Obama discussed his view that we are in a
winner take all economy, in which the gains from economic growth skew heavily
toward the wealthy. Actually, I have some sympathies for this view. I am inclined to
agree that corporate CEO s, as a group, are overpaid. But I disagree with the one-sided
generalization Obama makes. To a very real degree, when the companies large and
small thrive, so does the entire economy. Obama s idea of boilerplate redistribution of
wealth is pure socialism. His attack on the successful is not justice. It is theft! I want to
see leaders that encourage every American to work hard and make personal and family
decisions that improve their chance of success, rather than preaching negativism that
success is beyond their control because of race, class, poverty, etc. As Cal Thomas says

overcomers. Today, we are not about overcoming. The successful are not studied to see
how they succeeded. Their stories of overcoming obstacles are not told, at least in their
totality. If they are told at all, it is just the success and wealth part, not the part about
how they got there .Obama s economic doctrine subsidizes people who make wrong
decisions and does little to encourage them to make right ones.
15. Obama says he won t raise taxes on the middle class. That s going to be a pretty hard
promise to keep, given his list of new programs including government subsidies for free
college, social security, health care, etc. While I am fed up with Democrat s and
Republican s continued failure to balance the budget, I have more hope for Obama s
opponent than for Obama. John McCain has been a long time champion against pork
barrel spending. He is unusual in that he has never garnered any pork for his own state.
When he says that he will veto bills with pork in them, I m inclined to believe him. I m
very uneasy about Senator Obama s ability to pull off a change in Washington to
balance the budget.
16. I m frazzled about Obama s socialization of America. The comments Obama has made
about ignoring the Constitution are alarming:

18. Obama supports gay marriage. Goodness knows that Americans come down on
different sides of this issue. But whenever it goes before a vote of the people,
Americans usually vote 2 to 1 against gay marriage. Obama wants to appoint judges that
will force gay marriage on us. This whole debate is based on the idea that some people
are born gay. That idea has no basis in science. The real problem for those in a
homosexual lifestyle is not discrimination, but rather physical devastation
(http://www.familyresearchinst.org/). This lifestyle has much greater statistical
incidence of disease and addiction. In fact, the best evidence we have on it indicates
that the life expectancy of homosexuals is 20 to 30% shorter than others, not even
accounting for AIDS. The real bottom line is surprisingly simple: Every child has the right
to a mother and a father. Statistics confirm that children do much better in a traditional
family. The definition of marriage as between one man and one woman is rightly
discriminatory for children in family formation. While there may be more research left
to be done, let s allow the people to decide how they want marriage to be defined in
this country.
19. Obama s solution to everything is to have government tax it or nationalize it. This is Big
Brother on Steroids. Maybe change means that we can emulate great societies like,
well, Venezuela.
20. Obama is the most inexperienced person to run for President in my lifetime. Even he has
admitted that his experience makes him unqualified:
